Pistacia Lentiscus Gum (Mastic Gum)

Pistacia Lentiscus Gum, also known as Mastic Gum, is a resin derived from the Pistacia lentiscus tree native to the Mediterranean region. Mastic gum works as an alternative to retinol by inhibiting CYP26 enzymes which are responsible for the elimination of retinoic acid in the skin. By inhibiting the CYP26 enzymes, retinoic acid levels can increase.

Benefits:

  • Antimicrobial and Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Mastic Gum exhibits notable antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Its antimicrobial action helps in managing bacteria on the skin's surface, potentially reducing the risk of skin infections. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory qualities aid in soothing and calming irritated or inflamed skin.
  • Pore Refining and Oil Balancing: Studies suggest that Mastic Gum may help regulate sebum production, making it beneficial for individuals with oily or acne-prone skin. Its astringent properties can help tighten pores, improving skin texture and promoting a more balanced complexion.
  • Skin Healing and Repair: With its regenerative properties, Mastic Gum supports the skin's natural healing process. It assists in repairing damaged skin, promoting quicker recovery from wounds, minor irritations, or blemishes, contributing to healthier-looking skin.
  • Antioxidant Defence: Rich in antioxidants, Mastic Gum helps combat free radicals, shielding the skin from oxidative stress caused by environmental factors. This protection assists in preventing premature ageing and maintaining overall skin health.
  • Skin Soothing and Calming Effects: Its soothing nature makes Mastic Gum suitable for soothing various skin concerns, such as redness, itchiness, or discomfort. This calming effect contributes to creating a more comfortable skin environment.
